(JACKSON COUNTY) - A 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer hauling seven new BMW cars caught fire Thursday night near the 41-mile marker northbound on Interstate 65 in Jackson County.
There were no injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was Jeffrey S. Diskin from El Paso, Texas, who was driving for Sierra Mountain Express Inc., according to the Indiana State Police.
"He was fine," Cpl. Jim Ponsler of the ISP Versailles Post said Friday night.
The cause of the fire, reported at 7:39 p.m. Thursday, remains unknown. Volunteer fire departments from Vernon and Redding townships responded.
Ponsler said there was probably going to be some damage to the road from the fire, but doubted that it would be "that much of an issue."
One lane of I-65 was closed for a time Friday morning for removal of the vehicles. Ponsler said the road reopened to traffic at about noon.
