(UNDATED) - Police in Georgia say robbery is believed to be the motive for the shooting death of truck driver William R. Smith of Coal City.
Smith, 49, was shot dead in his semi truck while it was parked at a Pilot truck stop outside of Atlanta. His body was found in the vehicle Monday afternoon.
Police arrested a suspect Tuesday, 29-year-old Shomari Ellison, who has been charged with murder and armed robbery, according to Dekalb County Police Department Major James Clnroy.
Smith's family is asking that contributions be made to the William (Billy Ray) Smith Memorial Fund at any Peoples State Bank branches in Spencer, Bloomington, Ellettsville, Paragon, Morgantown or Nashville. Funeral arrangements for Smith are pending at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer.
