(MARTINSVILLE) - For Bare Feet employees will be driving to Martinsville to work.
Martinsville Mayor Phil Deckard announced at a news conference Thursday that the sock manufacturing business with a nationwide reach, formerly based in Helmsburg, is moving to the former Harman-Becker Automotive plant.
A Sept. 10 fire gutted the Helmsburg building that contained all the sock knitting machines.
The 225,000-square-foot industrial facility in Martinsville was vacated in 2008. The site appears to correct what company founder Sharon Rivenbark had said were some of the problems with its complex on State Road 45 in Helmsburg: easy access for large delivery trucks, adequate parking for employees and room for future expansion of the business.
The plant is 16 miles from Interstate 70 and less than a mile from State Road 37. It has 600-700 parking spaces, and offers city water and sewer and Internet service, according to the property listing.
It is listed for sale for $2.7 million, but Rivenbark said today that For Bare Feet will be leasing for an indeterminate length of time.
The company could start moving in as early as Nov. 1, and work could begin again by the end of November.
