(COLUMBUS) - Bartholomew Superior Court Judge Chris Monroe is refusing to hear what he calls “a very emotionally and politically charged” lawsuit.
Last May, Griffin Industries filed litigation to stop a proposed outdoor sports complex from being built near the old Columbus water treatment plant.
The animal rendering company on Water Street claims their large trucks - combined with athletes and spectators at the complex - would create both a "safety threat" and "traffic hazard".
In recusing himself, Monroe stated he has received more contact outside the court regarding this case than he has in the 23 years he has served on the bench. Monroe also claims to know several people involved in the matter, and says he's removing himself to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
