(LINTON) - Linton Police Department is welcoming a new officer to their staff.
23-year-old Michael Watts and Luke, a Czech Shepherd K-9, have been with the department for two weeks.
Watts was previously an officer in Westport and has been an officer for three years. He has been working with Luke for a year.
Watts was in the U.S. Marine Corps and his stepfather was a police officer, which he said drove him to be a policeman.
LPD Chief Troy Jerrell said he is ecstatic to have another K-9 on the force, to help even out the work load with K-9 Brodie.
LPD purchased the K-9 from the Westport Police Department, and Jerrell said that purchase and having Watts join the force has already saved the city time and money.
K-9 Luke is trained to search for drugs
Watts is the eleventh officer on the force, which Jerrell said was possible through Cop Grants.
In another personnel moves,Detective Josh Goodman has been promoted to Sergeant Detective. He will be in charge of the other detectives as a sergeant.
Corporal Paul Clark has taken Goodman's position as detective.
Both officers are currently taking Investigative Homicide Training courses.
