(MITCHELL) - Lawrence County Police and Mitchell Police Departments are investigating after a Mitchell man went to the IU Health Hospital Bedford early this morning for treatment of burns.
Police went to the hospital around 1:14 a.m. According to Lawrence County Police Chief Deputy Mike Branham, when police arrived they smelled a strong odor of ether.
John Cleek, of Mitchell, was being treated for chemical burns. He suffered burns to his arms, face, chest and legs. The man told doctors he was burning leaves and that is how he got burnt. He was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis Hospital.
Branham says that police then obtained a search warrant and went to the home on the 400 block of Frank Street, where they found evidence of a meth lab and a fire.
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Team was called to secure the site.
The case is under investigation and officers were still on the scene this morning.
