(COLUMBUS) - Two Columbus residents face charges related to batteries involving their children in two separate incidents, police report.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles, 33-year-old Thomas W, Morrison, of North Vernon was arrested early Thursday morning and faces two counts of battery on a child under the age of 14 and two counts of neglect of a dependent, both Class D felonies.
Morrison's arrest stems from an investigation that began in September of 2011 when the Jennings County Division of Child Services was contacted about two children, ages three and four, who were allegedly battered by their father.
The two children were removed from the home.
41-year-old Dianne K. Warnell, of Columbus was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a separate investigation that began on Oct. 11 when a 9-year-old girl reported to the beating to school officials. The girl had "severe" bruising from allegedly being spanked by her mother.
Warnell, turned herself in at the Jennings County Jail she faces charges of battery of a child under the age of 14 and strangulation. Both are Class D felonies.
