(SCOTTSBURG) - The Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department is looking for firefighters.
Volunteer firemen train constantly to stay at the top of their skills and knowledge of the best way to deal with different types of fires and hazards. The Scottsburg department also performs water rescues, and members are called upon to talk to school children and other groups about how to avoid causing fires and what to do when faced with such an emergency.
Applications for active volunteers may now be picked up at Scottsburg City Hall or at Fire Station No. 2, which is located north of the Scottsburg Wal-Mart on Lake Road. Teenagers who are 16 and older are welcome to submit applications to join the ranks of the Junior Firefighters.
To be an active volunteer, persons must be in good health; be at least 18 years of age or older; be a U.S. citizen; have no felony convictions; possess a valid driver license; and have a high school diploma or its equivalency. Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 21.
For more information about becoming a volunteer fireman or a Junior Firefighter for the Scottsburg department, call 752-7287.
