(EDWARDSVILLE) - Shots were fired, as a robbery suspect attempted to run police down in Edwardsville, off North Luther Road, Thursday morning.
For the third time in less than a month, a southern Indiana drugstore was robbed and police believe by the same armed man demanding the painkiller Oxycontin.
This time the Floyd County Sheriff's Department arrested the man after a brief standoff where deputies opened fire to stop him.
Police say alert witnesses called them immediately, and police spotted the vehicle driven by 38-year-old Gary Gallenstein.
Police say after he pulled into a driveway in an attempt to hide from officers, a standoff began.
Police say Gallenstein tried to leave, but his car got stuck in the mud and he surrendered.
Gallenstein is charged with three counts of armed robbery.
