(BLOOMINGTON) - 35-year-old Asser Elsharkawy, of Bloomington, is facing multiple charges after he rammed the back of a woman’s van with his vehicle several times and then evaded police, who were trying to apprehend him.
Elsharkawy was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of intimidation, possession of synthetic marijuana, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident and criminal recklessness.
According to a Bloomington Police report, a woman called 911 to report that a man in a Ford minivan had driven up behind her at the Ind. 45/46 bypass near Ind. 37. The woman says she was going about 45 MPH when the van rammed into the back of her van several times and then drove off. Police say he made several u-turns to evade police and was eventually blocked on Vernal Pike west of Ind. 37.
Elsharkawy would not cooperate with police and show his hands or get out of the car and police doused him with pepper spray. Elsharkawy was then arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail.
