(BLOOMINGTON) - Police in Bloomington have arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Adam Sarnecki, a pizza delivery driver for Pizza X.
Police arrested 21-year-old James D. Finney Monday morning and charged him with murder.
Finney was arrested just three days after Sarnecki was shot while trying to stop Finney from break-in into employees vehicles in the Pizza X parking lot on Bloomington's south side.
Police say Sarnecki told officers he confronted the man around 12:15 a.m. on Friday. During the confrontation, Finney turned and shot him, then ran toward a wooded area behind the pizza shop.
Finney has a history of violent incidents in his past, according to Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff. Finney is also a suspect in a criminal recklessness case where a woman was shot in the leg as she walked her dog on the west side of Bloomington on Halloween night. And police say Finney also broke into a tobacco shop the day before, stealing cartons of cigarettes.
Diekhoff says Finney admitted his involvement in the crimes after police confronted him with a .380-caliber handgun they found hidden in a dryer vent in a Lilac mobile home where Finney had been staying. Police found a .380-caliber shell casing at the tobacco store robbery and at the scene of the Halloween shooting. Sarnecki was shot once in the chest with a .380 caliber handgun.
Sarnecki leaves behind a wife and three children. For the next two days, the founder of a Bloomington pizza company is donating proceeds to Sarnecki's family. Checks made out to "Adam Sarnicki Family Fund" may be sent to One World Enterprises, PO Box 6955, Bloomington, IN 47407.
