(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence soccer player Andy Brinegar was presented with the Mayor’s Choice award at the Bedford City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Brinegar was honored because he has overcome many adversities and is an outstanding student and athlete, according to his coach Shawn Krahenbuhl.
In other business:
The city council vacated an unapproved right away at 135 Edgewood Drive to Stephen Ray. Ray is selling the property and the new owners want to build a garage.
The council did an additional appropriation of $9,100 to the Bedford Police Department so they can paint the departments Hummer and equip a police cruiser. The money was left over from an insurance claim after police vehicles were damaged during a spring hail storm.
The council also approved the transferring of $30,000 to the highway department so they can replace the roof on the Street Department at 14th and H streets. The roof has not been replaced in more than 20 years. The job will be awarded to a Bedford contractor.
The council also discussed blocking off the neighborhood near 14th Street next Halloween because of the number of trick-or-treaters and concerns someone may be hit by a car.
