(BLOOMINGTON) - IU is launching a new bystander intervention program to make sure something like Lauren Spierer’s disappearance doesn’t happen again.
Since Spierer disappeared June 3rd, there have been no major leads in the case.
Pete Goldsmith, the Dean of Students at IU, says IU is a safe campus and that Bloomington is a safe city, but it's not in a bubble.
The "bystander intervention program" teaches students techniques to intervene in potentially dangerous situations.
The college website offers safety tips, and students can take advantage of a police escort service when walking alone. Goldsmith says the bystander intervention program will start this January.
