(WASHINGTON) - Police say a southwestern Indiana man died after apparently falling from a 12-foot-high tree stand while deer hunting.
State conservation officers say family members reported 53-year-old John Mattingly, of Poseyville, missing on Saturday after he didn't return from his archery hunting trip and they couldn't reach him by phone.
Daviess County sheriff's deputies located Mattingly's vehicle in a rural area northwest of Washington, then found him dead.
An autopsy was planned to determine what caused his death.
