(MARTINSVILLE) - An Indiana man accused of holding four police officers in a house with gunfire says he was acting in self-defense.
27- year-old Richard Simmons says police should have gone about things differently when they tried to serve an arrest warrant on him Wednesday in Martinsville. Simmons was interviewed during a jailhouse interview with WISH TV.
Simmons initially said he didn't know the men were officers. He says he was disoriented but not high or intoxicated.
He denied firing an assault rifle at the officers, but says he was grazed by two bullets fired by authorities. He also says he was hit with a stun gun.
Simmons is being held in Morgan County Jail on $1 million bond on charges of attempted murder and wearing body armor while committing a felony.
