(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Merit Board members discussed the statements of Mitchell resident Ron Pridemore at their meeting Wednesday afternoon. Pridemore was not at Wednesday’s meeting.
Board member Doug Kesterson said when he voted in October to allow the public to address the board he did not intend for the public to attack board members. Kesterson was referring to the comments made by Pridemore in the October meeting.
Pridemore read a written statement to the board asking for the resignation of Board President Phil Tincher and Vice President Terry Bock. He accused the men of conducting business on front porches and in alleyways. He also said the board was developed under "hate and vindictiveness" toward Mayor Dan Terrell and Police Chief Jerry Presnell. Pridemore would like to see the board dissolved.
Tincher, in the Wednesday meeting, said the board is not going anywhere and he is not resigning. Tincher says the only way the board could be dissolved or members removed is if they resign or the City Council and the Police Department agree to dissolve the board or vote to remove a member.
"The City Council and the Police Department have to be in agreement. One can't do it alone," Tincher says. "That is state statue and I will get that information to you for the next meeting. If the City Council were to vote to dissolve the board, but the police department doesn't then we stay. One can't do it without the others approval."
