(UNDATED) - Shoppers are expected to spend billions of dollars both in stores and online this holiday season, and that means there are sure to be identity thieves out there looking to prey on unsuspecting consumers.
You can better protect yourself by taking a few simple precautions when shopping. Chuck Taylor is the section chief of consumer mediation and identity theft for the Indiana Attorney Generals office.
Taylor says being aware of store policies is the best first step. He says when you are purchasing, especially Christmas holiday shopping at a brick and mortar store, be familiar with their return policies. Because some of them may prohibit what you can do if you don't have a receipt for a return or how long you have to return or exchange.
