(JOHNSON COUNTY) - Picking through some family heirlooms, a Johnson County woman made a startling discovery Monday afternoon.
The woman's discovery of a hand grenade prompted a call to the bomb squad to report to the home in the 2100 block of South County Road 510 East.
The woman told police she was looking through a trunk that has been in the family for years when she found the grenade.
Unsure whether the grenade was real, she called police around 3:30 p.m.
Johnson County Sheriff's deputies found the pineapple-style hand grenade with its pin half removed. The trunk also contained old books and photographs.
Deputies took and secured the grenade until it could be properly disposed.
