(BLOOMFIELD) - Adam L. Cinamon, of Bloomfield, has been summoned to court on Dec. 16 on a charge that he illegally possessed a whitetail deer in late October, a Class C misdemeanor.
Cinamon, who lives on State Road 45, east of Bloomfield, was cited by Indiana Conservation Officer Mike Gregg.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Gregg, made a traffic stop of a vehicle suspected of "shining" deer about 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 31. As he approached the vehicle, he heard three gunshots. He said the red Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Cinamon stopped and he saw Cinamon pick up a deer carcass.
On Nov. 3, Gregg located the truck at Cinamon's home. Gregg found a deer skull plate with deer antlers in its bed with "fresh blood" on it, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Cinamon told Gregg he had cut the skull plate off of a "road kill" deer, but he was unable to remember the location. Cinamon said the deer was rotten and smelled bad, but the skull plate was not rotten, according to Gregg. Cinamon could not produce the rest of the deer carcass.
Gregg said it was illegal to possess the skull, unless it had been legally taken during hunting season or he had received a road kill permit from an officer, which he had not done. Gregg said Cinamon had not purchased a 2011 deer-hunting.
