(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man is dismayed that someone chopped down and stole an 8-foot tall pine tree he had nurtured for years.
Russ Bridenbaugh had the blue spruce dug up from his previous Bloomington home and moved to the city's Bryan Park five years ago. He could see it from his apartment and intended it as his memorial tree.
Bridenbaugh was devastated last Friday when he found that a stump was all that remained.
City forester Lee Huss says the theft was a pretty gutsy action, but that the city loses about a dozen trees a year to theft or vandalism.
Bridenbaugh says the tree was his baby and he hopes the thief has a Christmas as bleak as his will be.
