(BLOOMINGTON) - A section of College Mall was evacuated for about two hours as police investigated a suspicious object affixed to the side of a brochure stand on Wednesday.
The cylindrical plastic object wrapped in black tape was a flashlight stuck to the side of the stand with magnets, according to Bloomington police Lt. David Drake.
A mall employee found the object about 20 feet from the mall entrance between Dick's and TGI Friday. The employee contacted mall security, who contacted police, who contacted the Indiana State Police bomb squad. Police used an x-ray machine to help determine the item was not a bomb.
The entrance of the mall between Dick's and TGI Fridays was closed off to the public with yellow caution tape and numerous police cars. That section of the mall was evacuated for about two hours, from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Members of the Bloomington fire department and IU Health Bloomington Hospital emergency responders were also at the scene.
