(MITCHELL) A fire early Saturday morning destroyed a rental home in Lawrenceport.
Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department Safety Officer Pete Horton said the cause of the blaze has not been determined.
Firefighters were called to 1252 Main Street in Lawrenceport when neighbors saw flames shooting out of the back of the two-story home.
Firefighters from Marion, Guthrie, Huron and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments responded.
Horton said he is not sure who owned the home, but no one was staying there at the time.
The older home burned fast, Horton said.
Freezing temperatures hampered firefighters, because hydrants were frozen. Hydrants on Main Street and Lawrenceport Road were frozen, so firefighters went to Spring Mill State Park and those too were frozen. Finally firefighters were able to get water at the hydrants near Buddha store and from another hydrant on Ind. 60.
Marion VFD were sent back to the scene at 9:44 a.m. after the fire rekindled.
