(BEDFORD) - It’s a season of expectation and new beginnings and that is what Greg Stillion and Dustin Perry are hoping for after graduating Drug Court, this morning.
Lawrence Superior Court II oversees and administers Drug Court, a program to offer those who have committed crimes with drugs and or alcohol involved, a second chance. The program is an intensive attempt to rehabilitate and reform offenders who have problems with addiction.
Judge William Sleva said the graduation is fitting for the Christmas season.
"This is a season of expectations, hope and prayer," he said. "It's a time of wonderful things to come and new beginnings. This graduation is a new beginning for these men and I'm proud of them."
Stillion began drug court in June 2009.
"I was tried of living the life I was living and needed a positive change," he said during his graduation speech. "I have found happiness in my life without having alcohol."
Stillion is now married and his wife Amber is expecting their son in January.
"I now have a positive attitude and cleaned up a lot of stuff from my past," he added. "I am looking forward to tomorrow and I'm striving to be the best father and husband I can be."
Dustin Perry started drug court in 2008.
"I had three owi arrests in three years, lost two jobs and totaled three vehicles," he said during his graduation speech. "I would not have made it without Drug Court. I had self-destructive behavior and was putting others at risk."
Perry's attitude has changed. He has learned how to cope with depression and have a positive attitude. He knows now, he can ask for help from family and friends.
"I have set goals for myself and my family," Perry added.
Perry is employed and attending Ivy Tech, striving for a degree in business management. He and his fiancee Haley have a 3-month-old son Grayson.
