(BRYANTSVILLE) - Joseph B. Padgett, 53, of Loogootee, was killed in one-vehicle crash Friday morning on U.S. 50 West, near Grandma Brown Road, according to a Lawrence County Police Department accident report.
Padgett was extricated from the 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving and was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford, where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger; Karen L. Boyd, 47, Shoals; also was extricated. She was flown by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment for a hip injury, reads the report.
Police are not sure why Padgett's pickup truck went off the road and hit a tree. A witness, who was following the truck, told police the truck just veered off the roadway. A dog riding in the truck also died.
Assisting at the scene were Bedford Fire Department and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department.
