Man Arrested After Traffic Stop

Last updated on Tuesday, December 6, 2011

(SEYMOUR) - A traffic stop on Interstate 65 in northern Jackson County resulted in the arrest of a Kentucky man on drug charges.

Billy J. Grider, 51, of Liberty, Ky., faces preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Grider was arrested Friday after Indiana State Police Trooper Randel Miller stopped his pickup truck, in which he was a passenger, at about 4:48 p.m. about two miles south of the Seymour-Jonesville exit on Interstate 65.

During the stop, Miller became suspicious of the occupants of the vehicle and called for backup.

State Trooper Adam Bullock and his K-9 partner, Marley responded to the scene. Marley alerted the officers to the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle, according to state police reports.

A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana and prescription anxiety medication, police said.

Grider was arrested and booked into Jackson County Jail.
