(MARTINSVILLE) - A man accused of pinning four police officers in a house with gunfire faces four more charges of attempted murder in that case.
Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega says in a court filing that the new charges against 27-year-old Eric Simmons are supported by findings that he fired a handgun and a rifle at officers.
Simmons already faced two charges of attempted murder and one count of unlawful use of body armor for shooting at officers Nov. 16 trying to arrest him at his Martinsville home.
Authorities say Simmons fired at the officers, at least one of whom returned fire and struck Simmons in his bulletproof vest. The officers escaped unharmed. Simmons is being held on $1 million bond at the Morgan County Jail.
