(BLOOMFIELD) - A man who police say hadn’t registered on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry for at least six months is now behind bars in the Greene County Jail.
58-year-old Clifford Wood, was arrested Wednesday in Indianapolis where he was living on South Leeds Avenue.
Wood is being held on a $4,000 bond. Charges were filed against Wood last week charging him with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class D felony.
Wood was convicted of child molesting in 1999 in Morgan County. His victim was an 11-year-old girl. He is required to register annually for life as a sex offender.
Wood was sentenced to seven years with the Indiana Department of Correction on Jan. 8, 1999. He was released Sept. 19, 2001.
His first registration in Greene County Feb. 27, 2006 based on a conviction in Marion County, according to court records.
Wood's last known registered residence was at Route 3, Box 100 in Linton.
Previously, he was registered at 11225 State Road 445, Bloomfield - which is located less than one-quarter of a mile from the campus of Eastern Greene Elementary and Middle School. However, police have determined that Wood moved from that location in April 2011.
Greene County Crimestoppers received a tip Nov. 12 that Wood had been seen hiding at a relative's home, located on NE G St. in Linton. However he left from that location and police were unable to locate him.
