(BLOOMINGTON) - Union workers at Vectren’s Bloomington field office were locked out of their workplace Friday following rejection of a proposed three-year contract with the natural gas utility.
About 20 union workers of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1393 were effected.
A Vectren news release said the contract dispute involves workers in Vectren's North service area, which covers 570,000 customers in 49 counties, including Monroe, Martin, Lawrence, Morgan, Greene and Owen counties. Vectren workers represented by United Steelworkers Locals 12213 and 7441 also have been locked out of their workplaces.
Approximately 270 workers total are represented by the three unions, according to the company news release.
The contract expired Dec. 1, but the agreement had been extended two weeks in order to let union members vote on the company's last offer, the company said.
