(BEDFORD) - Acculevel Inc. will again fix the foundation at Stalker Elementary School.
On Thursday, crews from Acculevel Inc. of Rossville will begin work. They should be completed by Jan. 3, when students return from Christmas break.
Small cracks have formed in the walls of the school, which was built in the mid-1980s. Last year the company shored up the northeast corner of the building. This time crews will work on the southwest corner.
According to a structural forensic engineer, compaction was not done under the footers before the concrete foundation was poured. That allowed the building to settle, causing the cracks.
Crews will go under the footing and place helical pier jacks and raise the foundation about an inch to an inch-and-a-half. The jacks will be left in place, so if the building needs raised again it can be.
The school board Thursday agreed to allocate $25,000 for the work, which will cover Acculevel's quote of $19,950, engineering costs and other related expenses.
