(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Police Department has a new police dog named Ciro.
His handler is Captain Jeremy Bridges.
In November, Bridges and BPD Master Trainer Mike Johnson went to Ohio to meet Ciro, a 16-month old German shepherd, who was sent to the Ohio kennel from Germany.
After completing qualifying in narcotics, Ciro became the newest BPD officer on Dec. 6th.
So far the duo have helped clear Parkview intermediate school after a bomb threat on Jan. 10 and have conducted several vehicle searches and attended their first DARE event at Parkview on Jan. 20th.
Bridges and Ciro just returned from a week long narcotics training in South Carolina.
On Monday, Ciro and Bridges began their final phase of certification patrol dog school. The five week program in Bedford will include patrol and tracking activities.
