(BLOOMINGTON) - The trial of Winston Wood has been set for March 12 in Morgan County.
Wood is charged with causing a boating accident that killed a woman and her grandson on Lake Monroe in the summer of 2010.
Wood has hired Indianapolis attorney James Voyles, who is considered one of the most prestigious lawyers in the state. Voyles represents national sports stars and defendants in high-profile cases.
Wood is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury.
According to court records, Wood was operating his father's ski boat on Lake Monroe at sunset June 28, 2010, when there was a collision between his craft and a bass boat. Rusty and Susan Collier of Bedford were aboard the smaller boat and fishing with their grandsons, 8-year-old triplets.
51-year-old Susan Collier, and her grandson, Gage Pruett, died at the scene.
According to a toxicology report, 20-year-old Wood had no alcohol but traces of marijuana in his blood after the crash.
A Department of Natural Resources investigation did not assign blame to either Wood or to Rusty Collier. A year ago, the victims' family received a $2 million settlement from Wood's insurance company.
