(NASHVILLE) - A 6-year-old boy who fell through the ice died Monday afternoon.
Trevor Young was reported missing and possibly in a farm pond behind a home on Spiker Cemetery Road and Valley Branch Road in Nashville.
Brown County's Van Buren Township Volunteer First Responders arrived around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A dog's barking alerted residents to the area near the pond. That's when they realized Young has possibly fell through the ice.
The surface of the pond had iced over, but an increase in the temperature left the ice only about 1 inch thick.
First responders were not able to find Young. Indiana Conservation Officer divers worked for an hour before they found the boy, clinging to life.
Young was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis where he later died.
Officials are urging residents to say off of the ice at ponds and lakes following this incident.
Agencies also on the scene included the Brown County Sheriff's Dept, Nashville Police Dept., Nashville Volunteer Fire Dept., Van Buren Volunteer Fire Dept., Hamblen Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept., and Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Dept.
