(WASHINGTON COUNTY) - United States Attorney Joseph Hogsett presented a check to the Washington County Drug Task Force for $18,643 to be distributed equally to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Washington County Prosecutor’s Office to help in the fight of eradicating drugs in the county.
Washington County Sheriff Claude Combs will use the money for the purchase of covert equipment and controlled drug buys.
The money is a result of a drug bust on Jan. 7, 2010 where members of the task force executed a search warrant on a home in Borden as part of an investigation into cocaine trafficking. In the course of that search and the subsequent prosecution, $50,000 in suspected drug trafficking proceeds were seized.
From that, approximately $20,000 was reclaimed by the defendant after a lengthy litigation in which he stated the money was proceeds from his construction company.
The Indiana State Police will also get a share of the remaining money.
