(AVOCA) - Firefighters from three departments battled a blaze at a home at 213 Center Street in Avoca.
Dora Mundy dialed 911 Sunday night at 11:38 p.m. to report flames were coming out of her walls.
Firefighters from Marshall, Oolitic and Perry Volunteer Fire Departments responded. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and flames shooting from the attic.
Perry Volunteer Fire Department Chief said the fire started in the flue and then spread to the walls and attic area.
"It was a tough fire," Peters said. "We had to cut holes in the roof for ventilation. There was major damage to the home. With damage to the roof, ceilings and smoke and water damage to the home. This was not an easy one to get knocked down."
Firefighters were at the scene for several hours leaving around 2 a.m.
