(WILLIAMS) - A rural Williams couple lost their home and most everything else when lightning struck their house on Graded Road at the Martin-Lawrence County line early Monday morning.
90-year-old Clyde and 68-year-old Nettie Scott escaped the burning home without injury.
The fire happened at about 2 a.m. as a thunderstorm moved through the area. Fire crews from Williams Volunteer Fire Department and Martin County Civil Defense responded, but they were unable to save the mobile home.
Fire crews, according to Tony Lynch of Williams VFD, were on the scene just more than three hours.
Tamara Scott said anyone who might have clothing or other items to help the displaced couple should contact her at 388-5627 or (812) 391-4071.
She said her mother-in-law wears 16-18 or XL and size 8 in shoes. Her father-in-law wears medium in a shirt and size 9 in shoes.
