(BEDFORD) - A blaze destroyed a home on Red Bud Lane early Sunday morning.
The home is owned by Don Johnson and his son Chris was living in there.
"The home was fully engulfed when we arrived around 4:30 a.m." says Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Brown. "Chris was able to get out of the home, with just the clothes he had on. He didn't even have time to put on his shoes. He was able to run to his neighbors Him Henderson and have them call for help."
Brown says there were no smoke detectors in he home. The odor of smoke was what woke Chris.
"Thankfully no one was injured in the blaze or while battling it," Brown added.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation
Firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department, Marshall, Oolitic and Indian Creek VFDs responded. \
Brown says the home was about 700 feet from the main roadway and a relay had to be set up to get water to the home.
Tops 1 also provided food and beverages for the firefighters.
