(MITCHELL) - A fire raged through a mobile home at 469 East Grissom Avenue Monday night. It took Mitchell Fire Department firefighters only 15 minutes to knock down the blaze, according to Chief Tyler Duncan.
The older mobile home is owned by Leon Terrell, but was being rented to Becky Barlow. Barlow was not at home when the fire started and was in the process of moving out of the home.
Duncan said because of the way the fire damaged the home, it was difficult to determine the cause of the blaze. He is bringing in an investigator from the State Fire Marshal's office today to help determine the cause.
"The trailer is still there, but the way it burned, it gutted the center of it," Duncan said.
Six firefighters responded to the scene with two trucks at 8:14 p.m. They remained on the scene until 11:06 p.m.
Cold temperatures didn't hinder the fire-fighting effort, but made the job more difficult for the responders who have trouble staying warm when they're wet and it's that cold outside.
