(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Museum of History is offering children ages 4-12 something new and different to do on Saturdays.
The museum will unveil its Duke Energy World of Discovery at 11 a.m. Saturday in the meeting room of the museum. There are 30 different boxes for the kids to play with and the number will expand as the program continues.
The program is being funded by a $5,000 grant from Duke Energy. Museum volunteer Glenda Reynolds was hired at the World of Discovery coordinator.
Reynolds has been creating the boxes and stations the children will be able to discover during their sessions at the museum.
There are boxes as simple as a large cloth checkers board and checkers to a light box where the kids can look at animal x-rays or learn Morse code.
The World of Discovery is free and will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday the museum is open. The museum closes some Saturdays on certain holiday weekends.
Children must be accompanied by an adult as this is not a babysitting service. Each adult may supervise up to four children.
Children will be asked to register and give contact information. This way the staff can give important information to parents/guardians if the museum is to be closed because of a holiday or weather, as well as alert parents to special events happening at the World of Discovery, such as demonstrations and presentations by speakers.
