(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig is recruiting unpaid reserve officers. Craig said he is looking for five or six officers and hope to have them on duty soon.
He is hoping to find individuals between the ages of 30 to 50 years old and who are extremely involved in the community.
Potential candidates are required to be 21 and pass written and physical requirements. Craig said the physical requirement is not as tough as in years past. Those applying also will need to pass a firearms test.
Reserve officers provide a support role for the department's officers. They help with festivals, the county fair and some high school athletic events.
Any men or women interested in becoming a reserve officers should stop at the sheriff's department at 15th and I streets or call Craig or training officer Gregg Taylor at 275-3316.
