(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County residents are brainstorming ideas to revitalize downtown Bedford.
The plans, to be completed by May, focus on five designated areas, Downtown Core, Depot District I and J Street Corridor, East Downtown and West Downtown.
Large maps of each area were on display at the Bedford Chamber of Conference Room Thursday. Mayor Shawna Girgis wants downtown to be a top priority for Bedford.
Bedford was in the top five for the Stellar Community Grant last year, and Girgis is determined to be successful in landing the grant for Bedford. North Vernon and Greencastle, last year's Stellar recipient,s will reap an estimated $31 million in state funding during the next three years.
Girgis wants that for Bedford and revitalizing the downtown area will be a top priority. The city is seeking community support and ideas during these brainstorming meetings.
A second meeting will be held in the near future. Girgis is inviting everyone to attend.
