(BLOOMINGTON) - 55-year-old Darrell Tolliver, of Mitchell, died at IU Health Hospital in Bloomington from head and chest injuries after he crashed his car on Old Ind. 37, Tuesday morning.
Bloomington Sheriff Department officers and Perry Clear Creek Volunteer Firefighters arrived at the crash at 7 a.m., near the Kroger Gas Station. Firefighters had to remove the door and steering wheel to free Tolliver from his Buick Century.
Tolliver was unconscious at the scene. He was wearing his seat belt and the air bags had deployed.
Police are still investigating the accident, but it appears Tolliver lost control of his car, causing it to roll and hit a tree. The tree broke in half, but did not fall on the car.
