(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Town Council said they may lose the playground equipment because the town’s insurance company says it’s unsafe.
The playground equipment was put in place in 1987 and does not meet safety standards and is deteriorating.
German American Insurance has sent two notices to the town saying something must be done.
Council President Delvin Nikirk says he hates to see the town lose the equipment because there will be no where for children to play.
Town attorney Greg Pittman suggested the town get some guidelines from the insurance company before they decide what to do. Pittman says maybe the insurance company and the council can come to an agreement.
Nikirk says the town has no money to purchase new equipment or funds to spend on repairs.
Pittman says if the town has no insurance coverage for the use of the equipment, it will have to be taken down, because the town could not afford a lawsuit if someone was to be injured on the equipment.
