(LYONS) - Greene County Coroner Sherry Wilson confirms a pair of fatalities in a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred on County Road 200S (Old Lyons Road) at the intersection with County Road 1025W Tuesday night.
Wilson said 23-year-old James Keith Allen, of Lyons, and 45-year-old Susan Olson, of Jasonville, were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce, details of how the 7:10 p.m. accident unfolded are being determined by an Indiana State Police accident reconstruction specialist, who was called to the scene late Tuesday night.
Police said Olson, driving a 2001 Ford SUV, and traveling westbound on C.R. 200S and crossed into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason and struck a 2000 Dodge Neon, driven by Allen.
Olson's SUV traveled several more feet west before leaving the roadway and flipping on its top.
Allen's car was knocked off the roadway and into a field on the southside of the county road.
Olson is believed to have been killed on impact along with the family dog that was ejected from the vehicle.
Both of the victims had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Three passengers in the Allen vehicle, including his wife, Ashley Bailey-Allen, 23, of Lyons, and two small female children, ages 2 and 4, were initially taken by ambulance to Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
According to a nursing supervisor at GCGH, Ashley Bailey-Allen was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The 2-year-old girl was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The other child was transferred by ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children.
Early Wednesday afternoon, Ashley Bailey-Allen was listed in "good condition" by hospital spokesman Gene Ford.
No condition reports were available on the two children, Ford said.
The Greene County Coroner's office will be submitting blood samples from both drivers to the Indiana Department of Toxicology.
