(BLOOMINGTON) - A Monroe County sixth-grader won first place at the Indiana University Regional Spelling Bee in Bloomington on Saturday.
For the second time, Star Han spelled her way to the top, competing against students from Brown, Greene, Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties.
Han's winning word was the French spelling of "fete," which means "celebration."
Although the word was short, Han said the competition was long and enduring. "I think the competition was harder this year," she said.
Han will move on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, D.C. area in May.
The spelling bee's sponsor, the E.W. Scripps Company, also owns RTV6.
