(BLOOMINGTON) - 21-year-old William Sater, of Bloomington, was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the man and then hit him in the face with the gun and demanded money.
The alleged crime happened in the 800 block of South Greenleaf Court about 3 p.m. Thursday.
The man told police he had just pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex when Sater allegedly approached his car and pulled the gun. The man didn't have any money to give Sater, who then ran from the scene. The man suffered a laceration on his face, but declined medical treatment.
Police searched the area and found a woman holding a flannel jacket that matched the description given to police.
They interviewed 19-year-old Sarah Burke at the police station and she told police that she and Sater had been working in the area of Basswood Drive and had intended to steal a moped. She told police she talked Sater out of stealing the moped and he told her he had something to do and left. A few minutes later Sater returned and handed her his jacket, after saying police were on their way and ran.
After she was released by police they followed her to I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital where she was picked up by two men in a truck. They followed the truck to an apartment on Pecan Lane and obtained a search warrant and returned to the apartment where they found Sater, Burke and a third man 29-year-old Casey Marcum.
Marcum was arrested on charges of possession of a syringe. Burke was arrested on charges of assisting a criminal. And Sater was arrested on charges of armed robbery and a probation violation. Police also recovered a Glock 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.
