(BEDFORD) - The ice storm that raced through Lawrence County on Jan. 21 cut into the highway department’s budget and disabled a vehicle.
The Lawrence County Highway Department paid out a lot of overtime after the county was layered in a coating of ice, according to County Highway Superintendent David Holmes.
On that Saturday, the department spent $7,363 for labor and $16,929 on materials. Overall, it cost the county $24,000. Some employees worked between 12 to 14 hours that day.
The department also lost the use of a truck that turned over on Back Creek Road. An insurance representative has looked at the truck and the department is waiting on estimates to determine if the truck will be repaired or totaled.
