(MITCHELL) - Indiana Department Of Transportation Media Relations Director Cher Elliott reports work is progressing on Ind. 37 between Mitchell and Paoli.
Utilities have been relocated and actual construction is expected to begin between Mitchell and Orleans in March and will be finished this construction year.
Construction between Orleans and Paoli is not expected to begin until 2013.
Travelers should not expect many delays on Ind. 37 throughout the duration of the project which has an end date of November 2013.
Orleans itself is considered to be a separate project and bids were let Wednesday for that work. The two final pieces of the overall highway improvement plan for which the Indiana 37/145 Association has long lobbied will involve Ind. 37 leading from Paoli square to the northern edge of town and U.S. 150/Ind. 56, leading west from the square to Indian Boundary Road. That work is expected in 2015.
The association, lead by Bill Schrader of Bedford, have pushed for better roads from Lawrence County to Interstate 65 for nearly three decades.
