(LOOGOOTEE) - Geneva Yoder of Loogootee asked the Loogootee School Board to reconsider approving any future school fund-raisers that involve a hypnotist.
She says it is "not morally or ethically right to hypnotize children for the sake of entertainment or fund-raising.
A fund-raiser for the baseball team involving a hypnotist is scheduled for Saturday.
Yoder read a statement she had written which presented both pro-hypnosis and anti-hypnosis arguments from a Christian perspective. She said the pro-hypnosis arguments distorted scripture.
Although she no longer has children in the school system, Yoder said she often comes to the school grounds to pray for the school and its teachers, students and administrators.
Yoder received support from board member Scott Hall, who "wasn't comfortable" with the idea. He added he was a Christian and wanted to do the right thing for the community and the young people. He added he hoped all future fund-raisers will be will be in the best interest of everyone.
