(BLOOMFIELD) - A Jasonville man faces new charges after he allegedly took a cell phone during a job interview at WorkOne in Linton.
A warrant has been issued for 23-year-old Aaron Gardner charging him with theft.
Gardner is already in jail for allegedly violating his probation on a multiple theft charge conviction in 2009.
Gardner is now accused of taking an iPhone from Eileen Jeja on December 13 while she was interviewing him at WorkOne. The phone was in an outside pocket of her purse next to her chair. She left the office to make a copy of Gardner's driver's license and that is when Gardner allegedly took the phone.
When she returned to her office, she found Gardner sitting in her chair. He allegedly told Jeja he needed to stretch his legs and that is why he was on the other side of the desk.
After Gardner left the office, she went to check her phone and that is when she discovered it was missing.
Later that same night Gardner was arrested on a petition to revoke a suspended sentence for an alleged probation violation. He was originally arrested in May 2009 in connection with a string of car burglaries in Jasonville. He was charged with seven counts of theft, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of marijuana with a prior conviction. He is being held without bond.
The phone, which had a serial number, matched one that was taken from Meja and was found under Gardner's bed by his mother on December 20. The phone was then turned over to police
Police interviewed Gardner on December 21 and he admitted to the theft saying he didn't know why he took the phone.
