(MARTINSVILLE) - 34-year-old Chadwick Kidwell, of Martinsville, was killed Wednesday night when his moped he was driving was hit from behind.
He was declared dead at the scene by Morgan County Deputy coroner Annettte Rohlman. She says Kidwell died from massive head injuries.
According to police reports, Kidwell was sitting on his moped at the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Ind. 39 waiting to turn left onto Spring Lake Apartments complex when his moped was hit from behind by a 2003 Ford Windstar driven by 45-year-old Jeanne Clark. Kidwell was knocked off his Yamaha moped into the east lane of the highway.
Clark was not injured in the accident. Clark told police she did not see the moped, but heard a loud bang and when she looked back she saw the accident in her mirror. She says she stopped, turned around and came back to the scene.
Clark is a nurse and she began giving Kidwell medical aid until help arrived. A helicopter was called to the scene to take Kidwell to the hospital but he died before it arrived.
The highway was closed for about 2 hours while police investigated the accident.
